Antique Lenkoran Gallery Rug, Southeast Caucasus, late 19th century
Size: 9 ft 8 in x 3 ft 8 in (2.94 m x 1.11 m)
Provenance: New York private collector
An elegant Lenkoran rug distinguished by its elongated proportions and the disciplined decorative vocabulary of the Southeast Caucasus. Lenkoran weavings often feature an open or minimally ornamented field framed by complex borders, creating a particularly effective tension between space and pattern. Their long, narrow formats make them well-suited to traditional domestic architecture and remain highly practical today. This example is an appealing choice for a hall, gallery, library or the side of a dining table.
Condition
Lot #470 is in very good condition. The pile is full and even, with no visible signs of wear. Both ends are complete and hand-secured, and the sides are secured. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready.
