An intimate vintage Gabbeh reflecting the direct and highly personal visual language of the pastoral weaving traditions of southwest Persia. Gabbehs are admired for their tactile wool, simplified forms and spontaneous compositions. Their makers frequently reduced people, animals, plants and elements of the surrounding landscape to expressive geometric symbols. The apparent simplicity of these rugs is deceptive: the strongest examples depend on sensitive relationships among color, texture, irregular drawing, and open space. This compact example is particularly appealing as a collectible textile, a bedside rug, or a wall-mounted work of folk abstraction.
