This large antique Indian Agra carpet from the turn of the 20th century presents a sophisticated interlocking lattice allover pattern enriched by floral and vegetal detail elements, framed by classically proportioned inner and outer borders of finely wrought ornamentation at multiple scales. What makes this piece especially compelling is the evocative way it wears its age — a unique and intriguing patina that adds character and depth to what is already a fascinating and artistically accomplished composition.
Condition
Lot #369 is in shabby chic/distressed condition, with scattered areas of worn pile throughout. All sides need securing. There is no dryness in the foundation. This rug is clean.
