No Reserve - Antique Spanish Savonnerie French Design Rug

This beautifully woven late 19th-century antique Spanish carpet is a bold and alluring composition that draws deeply from classical European decorative traditions while acknowledging the influence of its antique Oriental neighbors. An oval cameo medallion wreathed in leafy branches floats within a rich gold open field, surrounded by Rococo scroll-work on a paler yellow ground, and dramatically framed by a garland border on jet-black. The brilliant use of saturated gold and black against soft pastel tones gives this Spanish carpet its uniquely powerful decorative effect — an exciting and distinguished example of the Spanish style at its height.

Lot #386 is in good condition. The pile is full and even. There is an approximately 18" x 18" area that has been professionally rewoven. The two ends are original and secured, and the sides are secured. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready.
