This superb antique Persian Heriz Serapi rug from the early 20th century stands apart from its peers through an allover drop-repeat design descended from classical Caucasian blossom and dragon carpets — a striking departure from the bold medallion formats typical of the tradition. The interlacing vine-scroll border remains characteristically Heriz in spirit, complementing the crisp geometric drawing of the field. What further distinguishes this piece is its reserved, autumnal palette of cinnamon, apricot, and tan, replacing the vibrant reds and greens more commonly associated with Heriz and Serapi weaving.
