An antique Indian Agra rug from the first quarter of the 20th century, this dramatic and sophisticated carpet is a genuine achievement in rug-making. A dramatic ogival medallion flanked by cartouche segments and pendants presides over a brilliant golden field, its surface enriched with subtle tonal floral patterns rendered in a delicate palette. The refined design is completed by an inner border of strongly outlined cloud bands and a Herati-leaf border intricately woven with vine scrolls — a composition that is at once dynamic, artful, and deeply desirable.
