This alluring tribal geometric antique Persian Qashqai rug exhibits the characteristic geometric design and symmetrical balances that we expect to see in the best of these Persian rugs. Both the central double diamond design and the abundance of animal life depicted on the background field are typical tribal design elements of geometric antique Persian Qashqai rugs. The abundance of small decorative medallions in the border design are also a known approach to these elaborate geometrical carpet styles.
Members of the Qashqai tribe lived in the Caucasus and Central Asia for many generations before they relocated to southern Persia. Valuable influences from all three of these locales are found in their carpet designs, colors and styles. The weaving style exhibited by Persian Qashqai rugs is a strong directness and playful boldness. This is especially evident in their grand triangular medallions.
While they stayed in the Azerbaijan mountains, the Qashqai rug designers and weavers absorbed the Caucasian rug weavers’ desire for vibrant colors and daring mixtures of color combinations. The Qashqai people have been inspired by the sheer artistry of antique rugs from Persia and carpet designs of other nearby tribes.
