Description
Inspired by mosaics and featuring an attractive and fauna-rich design, this 1920s Marbediah carpet takes pride in its uniqueness. Vines laden with grapes dance around figures of camelid animals, the twisting tendrils acting as a border throughout the piece. The Chinese Foo Dogs stand face to face at regular intervals, with an air of regal grace surrounding their figures. Pale butter cream tones are separated from vivid shades of rouge and rosewood, with the vines adding an earthy touch of attractive sage green. Among the repeating patterns are additional pairs of animals, standing in contrast to the two lion-like figures that act as the focal centerpieces of this antique rug.
The antique area carpets from Israel (especially the signed ones) are quite collectible and rare – they simply did not make many and made even less in larger sizes.
