This charming and unusual room size American antique hooked rug presents a remarkable blend of Old World elegance and New World folk art. The individual motifs – floral clusters and meanders – come from the Neo-Classical French tradition of Aubusson and Savonnerie carpets, while the allover staggered pattern recalls the design of traditional American patchwork quilts. The lovely cool tonality of this antique rug too is Neo-Classical French, although here it also seems to have the air of Early Americana. A wonderful decorative carpet with eclectic appeal and possibilities.
