The skilled Persian rug weavers of Kashan are known for producing some of the most beautiful rugs in the world. The fine weave of the rug allows them to create spectacular designs with a high level of detail. The colors of this mid 20th century vintage Persian rug from Kashan come together in a way that is gentle and earthy.
The design of this fine vintage rug is a central medallion, but the medallion is small and balanced with the rest of the motifs. One thing that you may notice about this Persian Kashan carpet is that the artist used lighter colors in the center medallion, and they become gradually richer as they work out towards the edges. This highlights the focal point in the center of the carpet and almost gives it the look of a vignette. This is an example of expert use of color and shading in the design.
