Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugsNo Reserve — Early Central Anatolian Karapinar Rug Fragment — Circa 1800
Size: 3 ft 4 in x 3 ft 11 in (1.02 m x 1.19 m)
Provenance: Property of a Philadelphia collector
An evocative early Karapinar fragment preserving the upper portion of a powerful prayer-rug composition. A bold red mihrab rises beneath an angular arch, surrounded by strong geometric forms and contrasting blue-green details. Although fragmentary, the surviving section retains the most architecturally expressive part of the design. Early Central Anatolian fragments of this type are valued as documents of an increasingly rare village-weaving tradition. Its age, powerful coloration, and abstract geometry make it especially suitable for wall display, where it may be appreciated as an early work of Anatolian textile art.
