A decorative antique Persian Tabriz rug from circa 1900, this suavely elegant piece draws closely upon the celebrated Kerman vase carpets of the 17th century, reinterpreting their lush palmette vinescroll vocabulary in a softer, more decorative palette suited to contemporary usage. The palmette vinescroll is particularly well rendered, with its blue ground providing an ideal framing for the field. The exceptional quality of the design is further enhanced by the excellent wool of the pile and the admirable clarity of the colors — a harmonious and refined result from one of Persia's greatest weaving centers.
