Beautiful Large and Decorative Ivory Colored Background Turkish Antique Oushak Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: 1900 – This majestic antique Turkish Oushak rug was woven around the turn of the century. It features several designs elements that make it an excellent example of late Ottoman Empire art. The antique Turkish rug uses contrasting colors in the field and borders to highlight the design motifs. It is a magnificently decorative rug that uses a simple color palette in coral, ivory and hints of blue arranged in a way that creates visual balance within the rug design.
The design of this beautiful and soft antique Turkish Oushak rug is symmetrical, both horizontally and vertically, with a single element placed centrally in the design. However, it is not used in the same manner as a central medallion. Rather, it is made to appear as if it is a minor elements of a much larger carpet design that extends beyond the borders of the antique rug. This was done to give the impression that the space is much larger and highlights the larger scale architectural features of the room.
The artist used the scale of the main border and field to enhance a perception of grandeur and size.
