This gorgeous antique Turkish Ghiordes rug was created at the turn of the 20th century and has several unique characteristics that make it stand out for the collector or interior designer. It features neutral grays and brilliant, fiery reds that make it perfect for traditional or contemporary room decor.
One of the features that stands out about this rug is the type of knot that was used to create it. It was created using the Turkish Ghiordes knot, or symmetrical knot. Persian and Turkish rugs generally fall into two different construction types. Persian rugs typically use the Senneh rug knot, which is known as the asymmetrical knot.
Both knots appear the same on the front of the work, but it is on the back of the carpet where you can see the difference. The Senneh type of rug knot is thought to produce finer work than the Ghiordes knot, but the Ghiordes knot is considered to produce a stronger, sturdier and more durable area rug. The Ghiordes knot takes longer to tie than the Senneh knot, which means that it takes longer to produce a carpet of this size.
