No Reserve -Large Antique Persian Tabriz Rug - Circa 1900

Size: 19 ft 6 in x 12 ft 5 in (5.94 m x 3.78 m)

Provenance: Property of a New York residence

An impressively scaled Tabriz carpet measuring approximately 19 feet 6 inches by 12 feet 5 inches. Its softly faded coloration and restrained design give it a quiet, atmospheric quality, particularly compatible with sophisticated contemporary interiors. The exceptionally low starting price is a rare opportunity to acquire a century-old, handwoven Persian carpet on a nearly 20-foot scale.

The carpet shows considerable age-related wear, with numerous areas of low pile throughout the field and borders. In several places the pile is worn sufficiently low for the white foundation wefts to become visible.

The ends are slightly reduced. One end shows several restored areas, while the opposite end is somewhat better preserved but also contains a vertical restoration. Nearby is another restored section, approximately 15–20 cm long by 2–3 cm wide, where the newer wool is noticeably lighter in color.

Within the field, there is a darker area where the pile remains somewhat higher, likely corresponding to an area once protected by furniture such as a table or desk. The surrounding areas, having received heavier foot traffic, are noticeably lighter and more worn.

Several areas in the field show evidence of old painted or color-retouched restoration, some of which is clearly visible. Similar wear is present along the borders. Approximately halfway along one outer border there is a repaired split or cut measuring about 15 cm, which has been closed but remains visible.

One corner also shows two or three noticeable dark stains.

Overall, this is a well-aged and well-used carpet that remains serviceable and decorative. Despite its wear and old restorations, it retains a warm, authentic old-world character and would appeal particularly to those who appreciate the patina and atmosphere of an antique Persian carpet.
