Description

This breathtaking Persian Tabriz rug from 1900 stands out as a classic example of the artistry and design of the amazing Persian rug weavers of this ancient city. Fine Persian rugs like this example, stand out for several reasons as rare and especially beautiful area rugs. Its colors are rich and vibrant, and its design creates a feel that is formal and sophisticated.

The first feature of this rug that draws the attention is the gorgeous emerald green background. This is a relatively rare color in historical Persian area rugs because it required a lengthy and complicated dye process. Although there are some plants that will produce a green color when used alone, they are fugitive and will tend to fade quickly. In addition, they do not produce the rich shade that you see on this rug. Only the most skilled wool dyers could achieve this color consistently.

This rug has an all over intricate floral design with the flowers in the field that are tied together and flow beautifully with those in the borders. The scale of the floral elements of this carpet shows the skill of the weavers in producing such meticulously rendered flowers and vines. The fine scale and level of detail in this carpet can only be achieved by using a fine weave.

This carpet shows the work of highly skilled hands. Tabriz was once home to the grand carpet schools and centers of the Safavid Dynasty. Many of the designs that are still used rugs today were first developed for use in the royal courts during the 16th century.

This rug features a garden of flowers that includes the iris, peony, and others that have a special meaning and significance. For instance, the partially opened flowers stand for youth, spring, and a time of growth. The iris symbolizes freedom of religion, and the leaf is a symbol of endless regeneration.

Several clues on this rug tell us that it was made for a person of rank. The peony is a symbol of power. When combined with the expensive green background and the quality of workmanship in the rug, it suggests that this rug was meant for wealthier clientele. It is an elegant piece that was the creation of a skilled designer.

Antique area rugs like this can be the centerpiece of any room. Its rich colors could easily transform a boudoir into a restful sanctuary. It could be used in a formal setting, such as a space for conversation or in a formal dining hall. It would also be the perfect addition to a Boho chic design, too.

It is an elegant and cozy piece for creating the perfect sanctuary. This piece of artwork could easily fit into a formal design or a more casual one. Some pieces seem to have an almost sublime quality, and this is one of those rare treasures.
