The city and province of Kerman in south central Iran has been at the heart of the rug trade for hundreds of years. The region has produced some of the world’s most coveted carpets since at least the 15th century, due in large part to the high quality Carmania wool that also originates in the region. Though no two Kerman rugs are alike, this beautiful piece is typical of Persian Kerman rugs: the gorgeous natural fibers and dyes, durable, high quality weave, and rich, interesting color combinations. The deep blues stand out against a lovely peach background in this extraordinarily ornate rug.
