Qum is an ancient city and pilgrimage site that is graced by impressive pieces of ancient architecture and many popular sites for visitors. However, in the world of Persian rugs, it seems to be a latecomer to the art. It does not appear that Qum produce rugs before the 1920’s. When it began its rug production, it had hundreds of years of tradition to draw upon, and it quickly rose in the ranks to create some of the most popular modern and vintage Persian area rugs for collectors and interior designers.
This magnificent finely woven vintage silk Persian area rug is a fine example of the work that has been produced in the city. Silk rugs are some of the most valuable in the world. The fiber has characteristics that allow it to be spun into extremely fine threads that can be used to produce a high level of detail. It also tends to accept color well, and these colors remain vivid for a long time.
