A visually arresting antique Oushak with an unusually strong red field populated by an array of circular medallions and geometric devices. The brilliant coloration and almost tribal arrangement distinguish it from the softer floral Oushaks more commonly encountered. Its generous 15-foot-6-inch length and bold graphic personality make it an exciting statement carpet that energizes both traditional and contemporary surroundings. Yes. The strongest museum comparison is a carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art dated 1774. The Met identifies it as a Gördes-type prayer design with a stepped mihrab, columns, and suspended ornament, woven with silk and metal-wrapped silk thread alongside other materials. The Met also holds several eighteenth-century Gördes prayer rugs, but most are woven primarily in wool. This supports the argument that your silk example is materially much rarer, although we should describe these as related museum comparisons rather than exact matches.
