Woven by hand in the ancient city of Oushak, long recognized as the capital of Turkish textile production, this antique carpet features stunning depictions of traditional floral motifs, notably the peony and the lotus. Bold geometry provides strict interlocking order to the pattern, ensuring each gold-hued motif emphasizes the clarity of the one following. The piece begins with a series of earth-hued borders: the first of plain sand; the second bright yellow, patterned with a geometric flowered vine; the third a stunning design of small pastel motifs and coppery crimson that recall the glory of autumn. These frame a broad border patterned with magnificent renderings of the peony and lotus.
