This beautiful and tribal antique Turkish Kirshehir carpet is characterized by a deeply alluring ivory field. In general, antique Turkish rugs of Kirshehir design are noted for their vibrant coloration, superior wool, and the unique, geometric nature of their detail work, in this case including eight pointed stars. Further, Kirshehir rugs often include prayer designs, and are among the most important styles of such pieces. This particular antique tribal prayer rug example beautifully articulates many of these qualities and characteristics: a beautiful ivory field and red and green detail work place this antique Oriental carpet among the ranks of the more richly colored Kirshehir carpets; superior wool in its structure; and intriguing line work with a decidedly geometric bent. Further, this is in fact a prayer rug, as evidenced by the pointed border of red.
