Beautifully composed and meticulously woven, this appealing example of the Khorassan style is characterized by its stirring pallet, as well as the remarkably comely manner in which it shows its age. A series of ornate, classically composed borders surrounds the perimeter of the carpet. These are impressively rendered, with the primary border a brilliant albeit slightly faded shade of red, featuring ivory and blue paisleys and vegetal detail elements throughout. This complex arrangement contrasts starkly with the field, which is intriguingly minimalist. Complex corner pieces of blue and red vine scrolls are situated in each corner, seductively stretching into the otherwise starkly unadorned ivory field. In the center stands an impressive monumental medallion, stacked ivory on blue with intriguing line work throughout. The abrash that this carpet shows is unique to pieces of this age. Further, the mastery of the composition combined with the comeliness of the design make this carpet a veritable work of art.
