No Reserve -Antique Persian Haji Jalili Tabriz Rug - Circa 1880

Size: 9 ft 9 in x 7 ft 3 in (2.97 m x 2.2 m)

Provenance: Property of a New York residence

A refined Haji Jalili Tabriz with a delicately drawn central medallion and an elegant, softly aged palette. Haji Jalili is celebrated for producing some of the most artistically sophisticated Tabriz carpets of the late nineteenth century, often distinguished by subtle coloration and exceptional draftsmanship. Its desirable room-size proportions and distinguished workshop attribution give it both decorative and collecting importance.

A finely woven Persian Tabriz Haji Jalili carpet of particularly desirable and uncommon proportions. The carpet is generally complete, though the pile is very low throughout, with several areas where the foundation wefts are visible.

One corner shows an existing restoration, while the opposite corner would benefit from minor attention. The side selvages are in good order, and the ends are intact. Scattered small restored areas are visible within the field, some of which are readily identifiable where the foundation is exposed. Near the central medallion there appears to be a localized area of possible painted or tinted restoration.

In the upper section, there is an area measuring approximately 1.6 x 0.6 inches where the foundation wefts are exposed and the pile is missing. The carpet would also benefit from professional cleaning, which may help refresh the overall appearance of the colors.

Despite the low pile and localized condition issues, this remains a fine and attractive Haji Jalili Tabriz, distinguished in particular by its unusual and highly desirable size.
