An unusually wide gallery-format Tabriz carpet combining the refined drawing of an urban Persian workshop with long, architecturally useful proportions. The extended field allows the ornament to develop rhythmically across the length of the carpet without the abrupt repetition often found in ordinary runners. Tabriz was among Persia’s most accomplished and commercially important weaving centers. Its workshops were capable of producing everything from finely woven pictorial rugs to monumental carpets created for important domestic and international interiors. The present carpet’s width distinguishes it from a standard runner and makes it especially suitable for a gallery, entrance hall, library or long dining area.
