A striking Sultanabad featuring a deep olive-green field filled with spaciously arranged flowering vines, palmettes and decorative boteh-like forms. The unusual green ground is enlivened by coral red, pink, ivory, yellow and touches of blue, all surrounded by a warm red floral border. Green-ground antique Sultanabads are considerably less common than red- or ivory-ground examples. Its unusual coloration, bold scale and highly decorative drawing make this one of the more exciting furnishing carpets in this portion of the sale.
