Mathematical precision defines the presence of patterns and lines in Khotan rugs. These beautiful antique carpets are renowned for their presentation, and this antique Khotan rug, from East Turkestan, developed during the early 20th century, showcases a tremendous degree of detail in the patterning and soft color representation. Several borders frame around each other and lead the viewer’s eyes inward, each segment layered over the other to create an almost three-dimensional effect in the way the sections lead the viewer. At the very heart of the Oriental rug, using angular flows to define the movements, several diagonal lines define the landscape, creating borders within negatives spaces as well as establishing diamonds as central focal points throughout the decorative antique Khotan rug.
