ANTIQUE KERMAN PERSIAN RUG. 25 ft 9 in x 12 ft 5 in (7.85 m x 3.78 m).

Antique Persian Kerman rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Persian Rugs, Circa Date: Early 20th century – This irresistible Kerman carpet uses a gentle color palette and exquisite detail to recreate the feel of a formal palace garden. This piece was created in the early 20th century in Kerman using traditions that made carpets from this area some of the most desirable among collectors. The beautiful, flowing design and fine weave of this carpet place it among the finest.

Kerman is located in central Persia and was once the city where weavers produced carpets that were commissioned by the rulers and noblemen of the Safavid Dynasty. In the late 1800s, the weavers at Kerman were involved in an initiative to rebuild the once-famous carpet industry. From this revival arose some of the most famous weavers in history.

Many of these master weavers are no longer known by name, but their work stands as a testimony to their skill. We do not know who designed this beautiful piece, but it has the characteristics that made Kerman carpets famous.

The Persian carpet has a fine weave and high knot count that is necessary to create the level of detail in the design. The colors are gentle, using soft greys, pinks, salmons, lighter browns and blues. The darker blue elements are carefully placed to create highlights in the design. The carpet has a formal layout, much like a formal palace garden.

You can see elegant cypress trees and vases that add to the garden feel. It might be noted that cypress trees are associated with longevity and vitality. The carpet displays an abundance of plant life, including irises, lotus, tulips and many others. Some of the leaves are stylized to resemble a boteh design. The artist who created this carpet had a vast design repertoire and knowledge of artistic principles.

This carpet has movement, created by sweeping curves, balanced with the formal design of the carpet. The design elements of this carpet come together in a way that creates and almost sublime quality. This is the perfect piece for an elegant and sophisticated room design. It would also be the perfect piece for any collection as an example of the artistry that made Kerman carpets some of the most desirable in the world.
