In the case of this extraordinary antique 17th century Turkish Oushak rug from Smyrna, one can be sure that the tales would be of the rise and fall of great empires. Smyrna was a center of trade and rugs from this area were considered to be of the finest quality.
The designs of the Ottoman Empire were known for their bold geometric motifs and use of high contrast colors. This rare 17th century rug, with its reds, blues, browns, and ivory are an excellent example of the work that was produced during this time period.
